South West, Cornwall Area news

March area news

Hi All, hope all is well and that you have managed to get out
and about in the marvellous weather we had back in
February. I certainly did, and had some lovely drive outs in
a wonderful 2LT Vitesse that I am borrowing whilst my little
Spitfire is being spoiled and having some
well deserved work done on him. Whilst
I’m writing this its now gone to the
sprayers for a little work, hoping to get it
back early April.
Onto an event from last month, Malc
and Claires run out and they have provided
the following of our Fabulous
February Run Out
We have had some wonderful weather
this February, what a bonus. Malc and I
were so pleased that for our planned run
out it was set to continue!
Thank you to All of you who were able to
join us at Smokey Joes, Scorrier, the perfect
starting point for our route. I think
there was around 13/14 cars, a great turn
out.
A hot drink before we started, a few bacon butties, though
many of you were very good and were
saving yourselves for your carvery
lunch! We headed to Wheal Rose and
the wonderful little valley that leads to
Porthtowan. I have to say here that I
was sorry we did not go right through
the valley but at least you had a little
taste of it as we had to turn up to
Mount Hawke to be able to join on to
the coast road for an equally stunning way to head down back
into Porthowan with magnificent views. Though unfortunately
it was hazy, so the panoramic views en route were not quite
so clear!
We headed on to Portreath B3301 just coasting on the long
coast road, it was looking particularly good around Gwithian.
We headed through Hayle, passing our lunch venue, everyone
having had instruction not to turn off for an early lunch as
there were more glorious miles to do first! We joined the A30
for a short distance, taking a right turn to head back over to
the North Coast, travelling through Ludgvan, a quaint village
with a superb little church, heading up to join the B3311, the
back road into St Ives.
Thought it would be great for some of you to experience this
little road, it is our back road to Penzance from St Ives and
we love it! As I mentioned due the haziness the sea views
were missing but as we neared Halsetown hope you noticed
stunning Rosewall Hill.
We drove our superb convoy right through St Ives, I heard
several gasps of awe and some from the children which is so
pleasing, they love the "old cars"
Porthmeor was looking absolutely stunning with a rough sea
and spectacular blue, we headed up the steep hill, heading
out of St ives via Park Avenue which gives you a great view
down into the harbour then heading on for Carbis Bay and
Lelant and all perfectly timed to be back To the Old Quay
House as it was lunch time. This is beautifully situated on the
Hayle Estuary with a RSPB site close by. Then about 24 of
us enjoyed a superb carvery lunch followed by an amble outside
to look at the birds and of course the cars with the chaps
paying particular attention to Ian and Cathy's new addition, a
lovely powder blue Triumph Vitesse 2 litre MK1. We wish
them many happy miles!
Great to see you all, Happy motoring. A wonderful drive,
thanks Malc and Claire for organising.
